Alon Goshen (http://www.facebook.com/alon.goshen) and Nitzan Bashan (http://www.facebook.com/alon.goshen#!/profile.php?id=641109675&ref=ts) dance Bachata at "Caliente" Festival.
Song and Artist name: "Las Noches" by Huey Dunbar
First of all, to all you Dominican Bachata Fanatics (I'm talking only on the fanatics who claim that anything other then Dominican style is not a Bachata), get in touch with reality. There are several styles of Bachata in the world beside your precious Dominican style, and while the others don't say bad things on the Dominican one, some Dominican fanatics keep on claiming theirs is the only Bachata style. Stop dissing other styles and say that "it's not a Bachata" or "That's not how you dance Bachata". You can dance Bachata in a sensual way, or even in a slow rhythm. Claiming otherwise is the same as saying that Ataca and La Alemana don't know how to dance Bachata, so stop it. You're only emberresing yourself...
Gotta say after reading all the comments that we really appriciate all the support and positive notes (and the not-so-positive-yet-constructive notes as well). This was shot just before we entered the pool on one of the Salsa Festivals, which explains our choice of clothing (to those who commented on that). We are self-taught Bachatero and Bachatera, since we don't have Bachata instuctors in our country, so we learned it all from DVDs and YouTube for about 7 months when this video was shot. We'll upload another video soon in which we improved a bit since this one. Again, thank you for the comments and support.
Bachata Rules. :-)
P.s. - a year later I made a new video. Wanna see how we progressed? Come check us out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF-oHwq8sDw :-)

Nope. This is what we call Sensual Bachata. You can recognise Dominican Bachata mainly by it's impressive footwork. In this Bachata style, the emphasize is more about the Sensuality of the dance.

Is it possible to take something in a direction that's different from what the authentic has been, yet still insist on being thought of as "the REAL thing?" There is value in both authentic and innovation. but can you be both when you are not a part of the tradition of its origin AND you are doing it differently? Philosophical question I guess. :o) Either way, I love what you have done here.

It's like Cuban people will mock people who dance Salsa on 2, or instead of dancing it in circular motions, dance in a stright line (we call it L.A. Style, dunno how it's called in the States). All are valid forms of Salsa, and none is trying to be like the other. Same with Dominican Bachata Style and other styles. Different sides of the same coin, only the Authentic dancers sometimes choose to crit the others for not dancing like they do...

I am 1 who has positive feelings and comments about your effort, appearance and choice of music! Anyone can and should be proud of what they create as the pure form. But it's true thant when it goes out into the world, U can't keep control of the directions it takes. but If ur saying that this dance is foreign to you, that ur learning from DVDs & for a very short time, wouldn't there be validity to criticisms regarding authenticity? Wouldn't u be helping take it as inspiration in new direction?

First of all, thank you for your comments. We really appriciate you taking the time to write. :-)
Second, we don't have any pretense that we dance Bachata as it being danced in the Dominican Republic, in the Authentic way (it was created there), therefore criticisms on us not dancing DR style, is not valid because we didn't aim there to begin with. We just dance in a different style of Bachata. It's like someone will crit us for not managing to do Tango right, in this video. :-)
