Eleven companies from the Philippines are taking part in MENOPE 2008 to enhance their reach in the regional market.

The companies from Metro Manila, Southern Luzon and Western Visayas occupies several stalls at the Dubai International Convention Centre and Exhibition Centre in order to intensify the distribution of their products, sourced from 120 species of 3,500 plants endemic to the country and scientifically validated to be useful, to the more than two million overseas Filipino workers in the region, according to the Philippines Middle East Trade Representative Paisal Abdullah.

We want to intensify the distribution of our herbal products in the region by starting off with our fellow Filipinos, he said.

For the benefits of the producers themselves, Chamber of Herbal Industries of the Philippines executive Rissa Gatdula Lumontad said the MENOPE 2008 exposure will also allow the delegation to update themselves on the developments so that they will know how to position themselves in the Middle East.

She said: The Philippine participation is expected to expose and update the Philippine players on the latest developments and allow us to evaluate our competitiveness in the middle east market.

It will provide us more visibility and awareness for the Philippine natural, organic and herbal industry with the ultimate objective of translating this increased awareness into higher sales and better export performance for the sector, Lumontad said.

The companies will be featuring their respective natural food and health supplements; health drinks; beauty, aroma therapy, personal care products; organic fertilizers; and juices or health drinks.

All of the products have been approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs of the Philippines Department of Health which also has a unit on herbal plants and products as it closely works with the countrys Department of Science and Technology, in research and development.
