Delia, a Long Hair Chihuahua, competed in Utility B at Tucson Kennel Club trial Nov 14, 2008. The bermuda grass was very long, dry, prickly and she didn't like it at all, but she gave it a valiant effort. However, refusing to go out cost us the Qualifying run. I'm still very proud of her. Delia will turn 9 Feb 1. She is exceptionally smart, but very low drive and low energy, which makes trialing with her very difficult under the best of circumstances.

  • Delia is actually a large chihuahua weighting just under 6# and standing 8 !/4 inches. She has competed in agility (4 titles), rally obedience (2 titles) and obedience (has her CDX and worked in utility.) She also does freestyle for fun (was featured in Living with a Chihuahua by Barron's books) and is a therapy dog. She is now retired and our Australian Terrier, Wally, is competing. Chihuahuas are special. Good luck with your horses. I always wanted a horse when I was young.

  • I have a teacup chihuahua and she jumps also. She does not compete though. I am just what you would call a back yard trainer. I do not have professional jumps. But this video is great! You trainer Delia very good!

  • Cute dog and great job training. Maybe your video person could use a tripod next time. LOL It is fun seeing such a small dog enjoying the work.

  • My video person is my husband and God forbid he should use ZOOM much less a tripod. It's been suggested - the dog is easier to train. ;-)

  • I work Rotties, an equally difficult breed. I am just so happy to see breeds other then Golden Retrievers and Border Collies in Utility. Good for you. I know what you mean about husbands. LOL Nice of him to be supportive though.

  • You are taking on a breed that is more challenging to train and you are working it!

That is a winner in my book :)

Keep practicing and you will get your UD title!
