Sure you better don't read his books, because he, who is one of the most successful and influential autors alive in the fantasy/sci-fi, has a different opinion (based in an intimate and scholar knowledge of the field he's talking about) about fantasy and science fiction. The 3 Arthur C. Clarke Awards, 2 British Fantasy Awards, 4 Locus Awards, 2 Hugo Awards, and all nominations and minor awards, who has won in this last 10 years, means nothing about his knowledge, insight and literary quality.

What pseudointellectual bullsh!t! There is vastly more stuff today called science fiction today than in the time of Verne and Wells. Maybe there should be P, Q and R science fiction. Real, Quasi and Pseudo science fiction. Vernes's Moon trip was Real science fiction and Wells' Moon trip was Quasi-science fiction.
But after listening to this I don't think I want to read any China Mieville.
I like the Conan series but I mostly I avoid fantasy. The Mote in God's Eye is way better than Dune.
