What is the best way to dimension in Layout? Well, the short answer is you don't (or currently cannot). You can do callouts in Layout, but dimensioning needs to be done in SketchUp with the Dimension tool. I have adjusted my style to always keep the text at 12 points regardless of my view. This figure will be retained in Layout. My layout windows update automatically. If yours don't, you may need to right-click and select update reference. One potential issue here is visual overload with too many dimensions. That can be controlled by creating layers for each view, assigning the dimensions to the correct layers and then syncing the layers with your scenes. These views are directly tied to the scenes in SketchUp and will update appropriately. There is a neat way to do some easy sketchy dimensioning and callouts in Layout. When you are in Presentation mode, you can draw with your mouse or digital drawing tablet. What you draw can be saved as vector graphics on your file.
