Correct, Barney - the World health Organization places the US 'pay-or-die' non-system at 37th in quality of care. Taking access into account, they're nearer 100th. Single payer now!!
Holmes' "brain tumour" was actually a Rathke's Cleft Cyst on her pituitary gland. To quote an American source, the John Wayne Cancer Center, "Rathke's Cleft Cysts are not true tumors or neoplasms; instead they are benign cysts."
Holmes truly a problem that needed treatment, and she was given appointments with the appropriate specialists in Ontario. She chose not to wait the few months to see them: far from the life-or-death picture portrayed by Holmes on the TV ads or by McConnell in his attacks
Our system does have its problems...it is starting to get overloaded with an ageing population and an increase in the amount of diagnostic testing we have availible now. It has nothing to do with it being a nationalized system. This woman is sooooo getting paid. I have a school chum who had her discribed symptoms. He was in a MRI in 9 hours. His tumor was out in a few weeks, his wasn't cancer. She leaves out the fact that she can stil petition her OHIP for some of her US treatment.
Certainly a problem that she couldn't get treatment. I saw another video of this woman on CNN where she broke down in tears at the end because of all the money she now owed to the great American health "care" system. My hunch is that her happy ending is going to be that her medical expenses are going to be paid by insurance company lobbies for becoming their poster child. Most people won't be that lucky.
The Canadian problem can be more easily fixed than the American disaster.
