You asked for it and here it is. A demonstration of how to use the Ruffler foot. We demo with the Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 835, but the principles of the foot are about the same on more feet for most brands. Enjoy!

You can also check out the link below for our blog on how to estimate yardage required for your ruffle.

  • I think this is the most informative and well presented sewing video I have seen. I am a professional dressmaker and it's great to see a film that actually gives me the full information and all aspects on a subject. Great presenter. Thank you.

  • @stephaniejoypowell Thanks so much for your lovely feedback! I'm so glad you found this helpful

  • sorry for being funny. can i use this ruffle foot on serger sewing machine? i want to buy a serger sewing machine, but i don't know if the serger can do the nice ruffle that's look like pleated. i hope to hear from you soon. thank you!

  • @hmongyanggirl As another viewer mentioned, the ruffler is not for the serger. You can do gathers on the serger, though: Increase your differential to 2 and increase your stitch length for the maximum amount of gathers. This gives you gathers... If you want pleats, you need to use the ruffler on your sewing machine as demoed. Happy serger shopping! If you're in Burlington, ON check us out!

  • Thank you! I just bought a generic ruffler foot for my 1983 Montgomery Ward machine. I'm hoping it will help me make tutus for my kiddie students' dance recital ;D

  • @nevroth so fun... I hope that went well for you!

  • This is so awesome. My ruffler foot pleats perfectly but when it's set to gather (1 on the dial) it appears to work, but the stitches all come loose when I pull the fabric out of the machine. I can't figure out why it won't sew the gathers down on this setting. Any advice you have would be so very appreciated!!!

  • Hi there! When are you going to do new videos?

  • help please. your video was very informative, but no matter what i do, my ruffler just doesn't work. i've watched several different videos and tried everything mentioned. i've used two different rufflers on two different machines (they are universal rufflers). no matter what stitch setting i put it on, it gathers when it chooses or sews straight at its own whim. or if it should accidentally gather correctly, when i pull it out of the machine all the stitches come loose. thanks for your time.

  • Could you use this on ribbon? I scrapbook and would love to have pleated or ruffled ribbons I make on my own.

  • Well you inspired me to buy a ruffler foot for my Janome 3160, it is amazingly easy to use. I was struggling with the ruffler on my vintage machines. I like having speed control, rather than using my foot control. It is so quiet and not the least intimidating, I have to figure out it if the Janome has box feeding, I can't remember so I guess I will ask the dealer. If it does maybe I can use this ruffler on my Juki..

  • @hmongyanggirl my serger has a serger gathering foot. You can also use the differential feed to do some gathering, you may have to adjust tensions.
