http://www.LocalAdPower.com Local Business Marketing: Marketing is Not a "Bad Word"
Most local business owners have a negative image of "marketing."
It's like a four letter word to them...
Conjures up visions of hucksters, evil manipulators, purveyors of snake oil and trickery.
Like many things it can be abused, but let's start fresh on what "marketing" means.
In the way I'm using it, marketing simply means:
- being the business people think of when they want the products and services you offer
- creating an environment in which people feel like they "are in the right place" when they want the products and services you offer
- offering very high value to the customer so they feel very satisfied, want to return to do business with you and want to refer their friends to you
If you offer a product or service of very high value, and you can present it in such a way that it is the preferred choice of clients or customers, is that a bad thing?
If you said "yes," then you aren't cut out for business.
Are you embarrassed about your business? Are you ashamed of what you offer?
I hope you are very very proud of what you offer and feel what you do does contribute to your customers or clients and in some way makes their life better.
Even if it's just because they feel good doing business with you and feel you are a good and decent person running a good and decent business.
From this point forward let's think of "marketing" as generosity.
Yes, generosity.
It means that you are offering something of very high value and being of service to people.
That's being generous.
So if you think of marketing in this way, and I hope you do, you'll see that it will influence everything you do in a positive way.
You'll feel good about your business and feel very encouraged to tell everyone you know about it.
You'll want to learn how to get as many customers as you possibly can, because if you are being a positive influence in their lives through your business, why shouldn't you want as many people as possible to come do business with you?
That's the power of understanding what true marketing is. Not that huckster crap, but real, genuine, heartfelt campaigning of your business.
