LIGHT HOUSE "POWER!" YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 12th,
2008 AT THE IX BUILDING

The power of film comes to Charlottesville on September 12th, as Light
House, Charlottesville's award winning youth media center, hosts its
7th Annual Youth Film Festival, "Power!" The evening will showcase the
best short films created by local teens in the past year including
animation, documentary, music video, and narrative films. Housed in
the marvelous Ix Building, cocktails will begin at 6:30pm, followed by
an 8pm screening.

Highlights include:

• "Divine Intervention" and "Space Movie", two outstanding
stop-action animated films that explore the power of humans with
delightful irreverence.

• "Hungover You" a tender and soulful exploration of the power of a
broken heart, with all original music and lyrics written by St Anne's-
Belfield student Genna Matthews and directed by Forrest Pando (AHS
2008)

• "Power Me" a video portrait made by the talented youth of
Friendship Court. In this video local kids define and explore their
perspectives on the power of God, Money, Love, Fighting, Shame, and
Family.

* "Calorie Count" is a compelling action film that will raise your
adrenaline level and curb your appetite at once.

* Two video documentaries "Smile, You're on 3000 cameras" and "Power
of Street Music" take a closer look at powerful influences on the
historic downtown mall.

Light House is a nonprofit, independent media center for local
teenagers who want to make movies focusing on personal expression and
local stories. The group provides mentored workshops in digital
filmmaking, a screening room, a DVD/VHS and book library, and dynamic
exhibition opportunities to young people, enabling them to learn
first-hand the language of motion pictures and sound.
Tickets are available at C-VILLE Weekly, Live Arts Box Office, Light
House 10-6 mon-fri, online @ www.lighthousestudio.org, or email
sambaker@lighthousestudio.org or call Sam at 293-6992.
