It's yet another video from your favorite low-carb couple featuring LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com blogger Jimmy Moore and his oh-so-lovable wife Christine in their popular "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube" series.

Today Jimmy and Christine zoom in on the most recent results from a health physical that Christine had at her doctor. While most of her health had improved since she began lowering her carbohydrate intake in June 2007, there were two areas of concern--higher triglycerides and elevated insulin levels. EEEEEK! Click on Jimmy's blog post about this below for more info:

Needless to say, this came as quite a shock to Christine despite the fact she lost 35 pounds, her HDL "good" cholesterol went up and her LDL "bad" cholesterol came significantly down by eliminating many of the sugary foods and some of the starchy ones she was eating. But as you'll discover in this video, it's not always about simply cutting back on carbs as much as it is following a plan that allows the best quality of carbohydrates in the quantities that are right for YOU! This is an important lesson for anyone who thinks they are doing low-carb the right way. DON'T BE FOOLED!

But never fear, Christine has a solid plan for success in place to get her triglycerides lowered with a more reasonable low-carb plan of action than what she was doing as well as a moderate resistance and cardio workout routine that Jimmy is gonna help her with. Since she's never exercised in her life, this oughta be interesting! Stay tuned for updates on Christine's progress in the coming months.

  • i like brown rice and fruit. i'm not fat

  • Good for you! Keep it up and consider yourself fortunate.

  • well, now there are people trying to say that Low Carb is bad for the brain. there´s even a joke video I saw on youtube ( Low Carb Zombies ) but the brain works pretty well on ketonic bodies with a small glucose provided both from diet and gluconeogenesis. I used to have a lot of fear about this, because many say "glucose is mandatory for brain" but no, its not.

  • I saw that "zombies" video--IDIOTS! If they knew the value of ketones on the brain as Dr. Larry McCleary shared in his book THE BRAIN TRUST PROGRAM, then they'd see the folly in their ignorance. Slowly but surely we'll get everyone educated on this stuff. :)

  • Sorry Jimi, I got it backwards.

Was it your LDL cholesterol that was elevated at at that time?

  • It still is...but the latest research shows LDL is not as important as the HDL/triglyceride ratio. Mine is FABULOUS and my LDL are the large fluffy kind that are protective. Low-carb is a VERY good thing regardless of what doctors wanna say about LDL or total cholesterol.

  • She should probably increase her intake of good quality fats so that she doesn't crave carbohydrates. In my case, raw unpasteurized fats from dairy such as cream and butter, cheese has helped tremendously. I eat those liberally. Organ meats are also excellent, as are egg yolks. Since I've adopted this habit, my cravings from sugar, even fruits, have vanished. Vegetables aren't even appealing anymore, but a nice bowl of raw cream is!

  • Actually, high HDL is a VERY good thing x00p3. That's your good cholesterol, the kind that you WANT to be up. My last reading for HDL was 71 and my triglycerides were 43. That's an AWESOME ratio that I challenge any doctor in America to tell me that's unhealthy. Anyone? :)

  • Hey Jimmy, I remember about a year ago or something. I read in one of your blogs that your HDL cholesterol was slightly high and I was wondering if you ever found out what was causing that. I'm guessing that you did get them down to a lower level.

  • Thanks fredoreo! She's doing a lot of that now. :)
