University of Regina, Saskatchewan - Engineering Project Day 2008

A GPS receiver, microcontroller, and cell phone communication network are
installed on a route-defined public transit vehicle. They transmit real-time GPS
data from the moving vehicle to a remote server, which logs the information in a
database. Programs based on complex algorithms process the information in
order to deliver dynamic arrival time estimates for specified stops along the route.
These estimates are delivered to the end user via a webpage -
http://www.catchthatbus.com - or a text message.

  • or the power input, could the installed unit be powered by the bus battery?

  • also what would be the total cost for one installation?

  • I know specs are very important in engineering so I was wondering, what did you have to do for the specs on your project? what is specified or what needs to be?
