This lovely little mill started up 1879 and closed 1984. The MG (machine glazed)or 'yankee' papermachine had a large single drying cylinder with a polished surface that 'glazed' the paper grades made included brown & white paper for envelopes.
You will also see a small rewinder slitter with paper shavings going onto the floor imagine the size of the slit reels say 10up (per reel)to be the correct width of an envelope.
The houses built for mill workers and their families still exist today in this picuresque area of Stirlinghire on the banks of the River Carron a plentiful source of pure soft water.
The music (Irish/Scottish) is superb and is a wee bit haunting at times especially near the end of the movie when the mill was about to close.
Sincere thanks to Mr John Gardiner of Stoneywood Denny for this footage taken from about 1976 to 1984.
