A male (red dot) Abedus herberti giant water bug attempts to attract the female (white dot) so that they can mate. The little pushups the males do send vibrations through the water that the females sense as sounds. The male is, in essence, "calling" to the female. If she's receptive, she'll swim over to him after he's called and mate with him.
