I think opera reached its peak during this glorious time; the music is daring, with bold dissonance, unstructured and shifting rhythms, and highly personal subjects and situations were utilized. I would rather hear a few bars of this eternal masterpiece than most of the operas of the nineteenth century.

what did Rachel Yakar's say to him in 0'01''?

my favourite... the whole thing was mailed to me by a total stranger i met when i was 13 on irc. Rather than a pedophile, he turned out to be a distributer of beautiful music. I shudn't have given him my address though...

Inspired production.

Thank you so much for posting this! I saw it years ago and loved the production. Rachel Yakar's voice is perfect for Poppea--it just drips seduction and corruption.

This is gorgeous! I heartly applaud Ms. Yakar's use of l'accento drammatico, a lost art at which many ignorant Italians scoff at today; "or che Seneca e mmorto": YES YES YES! This is THEATRE! Opera has died in Italy, grazie a Riccardo Muti and other bloodless, uninformed cretins.
