emile francis had every right to look pissed,,,too bad the rangers didnt have Nick Fotiu in the lineup. He.d take care of the broadstreett bullies all by himself,,

@buffalobraves9 A Hall of Fame career is the norm; a one-time struggle where Villemure stepped in was NOT the norm. Villemure was good...not great, which is why one of them is enshrined and the other is fondly remembered, but never played at the same level as consistently, as long, or as often.

@hallauthor Like in the '72 playoffs when the Rangers turned to Villemure when Giacomin sucked.

@buffalobraves9 Statistically and in the eyes of the NY staff, you are incorrect. In the years you cited, Giacomin played significantly more games, played against the tougher teams on a regular basis, and got nearly all of the significant playoff assignments. Villemure was a solid partner and competant back up. You stated he "was better anyway." By no measure is that true.

@hallauthor He only played 6 years in the NHL how could he be? From 1970-1975 Villemure was better, I'll give you from 1965-1970 but when they played together, Villemure was better.
