"The Mystical World of George MacDonald"

This film is now available on DVD for free to my YouTube subscribers. I may sell it eventually, but I want my supporters here to have it first and at no cost. All you have to do is send me a message here or through the email at my website and ask for it. Feel free to show it at your church, school, or other special events.

Part 3 - "Phantastes"

This is the 3rd part from a 51-minute documentary on the life and fantasy works of 19th century Scottish author--George MacDonald. I had abandoned the project in 2007 but eventually went back and finished it. It takes a long time to do everything by myself: writing the script, programming all the lettering effects and other special effects, hunting down photos, and especially composing and recording background music along with the narration.

The entire script is culled from my book: "C.S. Lewis Called Him Master (Exploring the Life & Adult Fantasy Works of George MacDonald)". MacDonald was a very big influence on later writers such as C.S Lewis and G.K. Chesterton. MacDonald is often spoken of as having had a mystical imagination. He excelled in fantasy literature of a spiritual nature, the best of which would probably be "Lilith", "Phantastes", "The Portent", and a children's book called "At the Back of the North Wind".

I checked Anodos on wiki and it gives it as meaning to ascend upwards on a path.

Thank you so much for this gorgeous film. It's so helpful, as GMD is hardly known here (The Netherlands).

For what it's worth, I don't think I ever read a novel or wanted anything to do with fiction until I was at least 30. Had I continued that route I wouldn have completely missed the best of what MacDonald had to offer. Now I often think there's more truth in fairytales than anywhere else.

Probably the reason he never accepted "orthodox" Christian views. He likely had a deeper understanding (being a fantasy/myth/legend buff) of the individual markers which indicate a myth recipe. Thank God for inspirational outside the box men like Macdonald....i have just fallen helplessly for the spirit his writings have from the off, utterly captivated by this brilliant man, and thats coming from a 30 year old who cared not a jot for anything written down.

This is an approach typical of Celtic Christians. MacDonald had a great understanding of classical myth.
