@SuperGreenHeaven 'so defined' makes sense, as the next verse says "now all of them have gone or changed." In context, the person who once knew his friends, who were 'so defined,' is bitter because he no longer recognizes them. They have "gone or changed" and left him stuck, living in the past, angry days.
