My Oklhaoma Town (Original Song)

I Lost my soul in Oklahoma
Cowgirls can rob you of your heart
I left a life I loved behind there
Set out to find a brand new start

I drove those dusty streets for hours
I took the back road out of My Oklahoma Town
You know the Tornado's and those summer winds
Can get beneath your very skin
And beat a good man down

Headed West to California
I was on the run it seems
I did not heed all of the warnings
About the land of Broken Dreams

I Couldn't make it in the sunshine
So I headed East, Back to My Oklahoma Town
You know the Palm Trees and the Ocean air
And those big Mercedes everywhere
Sure can beat a good man down

Took a job in Colorado
About a mile up in the air
In the foothills of the Rockies
Rich folks living everywhere

I couldn't breath well at a mile high
So I headed South, Back to My Oklahoma Town
You know the Mountains and the Winter snow
And the people always on the go
Sure can beat a good man down

Chorus
Always excuses for the man on the road
Finding new uses for what he's yet to know
Running in circles till he's back where he began
No he never finds answers, but he does all he can

Settle down inside myself now
Where my journey first began
Had to change my way of thinking
Had about all I could stand

Got another life to think of
One that doesn't understand all this crazy roaming round
You know the people and their friendly ways
And the Red Skies on an Autumn eve
Can make you homesick for that Old Oklahoma Town

You know the people and their friendly ways
And the Red Skies on an Autumn eve
Can make your heart drift back to that Oklahoma Town

  • We went east... to Atlanta... Worst place to go to try and escape the precieved horrors of Oklahoma. We are now heading back to our Oklahoma town, Stillwater. This song brought a tear to my eye! Thank you so much for sharing it. So much truth in your words, and I think an Okie who leaves will feel the same. Can I get an audio copy to download? Would love this on a CD!!

  • Great original BG and yes quite a moody song!
