Presidential Headquarters, Cairo, Egypt
May 3, 2009
Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak welcomed President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the Presidential Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt and offered a luncheon to the rest of the Philippine delegation.
President Arroyo was given arrival honors at the grounds of the headquarters, lead by President Mubarak. During their meeting, strengthening the friendly relationship and cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, and security in the region between the Philippines and Egypt was the center of their discussion. The Philippine government also believes that Egypt will play a major role in promoting peace talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or MILF.
President Arroyo was the first Philippine President to visit Egypt since the late President Ferdinand Marcos' trip here 30 years ago.(SNN/RJU)
