As a Bari player some times I am Jealous of a the range of the Bass Clarinet. Just don't tell anyone I said that, I would would get beat up my other say players lol.

@stephl76 no no its not a joke. dolphy was diabetic. he died of a diabetic crisis. he collapsed just after a show, and they assumed he OD's because he was a black musician. they could have saved him if that racist assumption was not made. he never did heroin. see wikipedia.

Bass clarinets don't produce the penetrating & attention-catching sound of the sax.... however the more you listen to the sound the more you get trapped into the addictive timbre of that mysterious instrument. Maybe that's why so many saxists have expanded their focus of attention to the bass clarinet?
