Gussow begins with a long story evoking hot summer days as a street musician in Harlem and the "watermelon man" who cooled things off. He plays the head, amplified and with overblows, then slows and dissects it. The song is a cha-cha beat. Note: Satan and Adam recorded Hancock's tune on their second CD, MOTHER MOJO.

  • Adam this is great. I always go to this great Blues jam and kill it when im up there, then one night the sax player said try this one and the band started playing Watermelon Man which I actually had never heard until then and he totally let me in the dust. I poked my head in here and there, tried picking the melody up and solo'd but you could tell i didnt know the song, no more thanks to this!
