The spaniards indeed destroy the aztec culture, and they replaced it with a better, more advanced, more humane one. And today the descendeants of the aztecs are still alive and they are the vast, VAST majority of mexico. While the US just killed the indians. Reservations are an exception. In latin america natives were integrated into society.

If you are asking, "which was worse, the Spanish Empire or the Aztec Empire?" then probably I would have to say that the Aztec Empire was worse. Though it is a close call. But that leaves us in the postion of arguing which is worse, a death by drowning or by fire. Neither is very good.

As for Spanish shame, all you have to do is read the historical record. I can recommend some authors to you. Start with de las Casas.
