First is a clip of a TP&W GP 38-2 hitting a couple of drifts east of Eureka, Illinois in 1983. Next in February of 1985 we pace a four unit empty coal train at the same location with a Santa Fe GP 39-2 on the point. By the time that the train got to El Paso, Illinois, 30 miles from its start in East Peoria, only one unit was working. Two were down and one dead. The crew plowed out the siding and went back to East Peoria. Two days later AT&SF's rotary cleared the line. The chief of police at Eureka, IL, said that the snow did not melt in this area. Instead, between the railroad throwing it over on the highway, and the highway crews throwing it back on the railroad, they just wore it out!

That was fantastic! What great video you did, you'd think they'd have a snow plow on hand.

I came out of Denver heading east. 23 miles of this. not one break in the snow blind haul.
