This is another of my video entries into the ScoreHero How Good Can You Sound Video Challenge, found here:

100% Gold Star Expert Vocals performance on Spaceman by The Killers as it appears in Rock Band 2 for PlayStation 3.

As per the rules of the challenge, the original vocals by Brandon Flowers are muted, and my microphone is turned up so the only vocals you hear are my own.

This video done by request from YouTube user DPo0ch.

Spaceman is a really fantastic song, but it's got one of those odd singing ranges where it fits very awkwardly into my voice. I can go one octave higher and hit the highs in falsetto but it didn't sound very good so I chose to drop down 1 octave and dip waaaay down into my bass range for the low notes.

As far as difficulty goes, this song isn't hard to pass, but it's tricky to FC because of all the weird chromatic pitches and the 2 octave note range. It took me a couple of days of on-again-off-again study to get most of the pitches right.

Last note: As my regular subscribers know, I never hum songs, but the intro felt a lot more natural and sounded better with humming than singing "oh-oh-oh-oh" over again (since the original vocal track is heavily reverbed but my voice is not), so that's why I'm humming the intro.

  • I guess you know it by know but you're singing one octave lower than Brandon..

  • Check the video description. :P

  • I was like "Okay, this isn't SO low, I'm not too sure what they're talking about...".

And then you hit the low C#...

And then I think I voided my bowels.

  • I checked my vocal range recently and my range goes from B2 in chest voice to F5 in falsetto. Makes it pretty awkward to sing a lot of songs in Rock Band, since most singers are tenors...

  • Christ you can get down low. You and Cowshark should have a "bass off".

  • Hah! Believe me, I'd give it up in a heartbeat if I could have your high range. :)

  • you sound like a robot lol

  • Like me, you've got too much of a deep voice to be truly successful on a pop song like this, which is really intented for a tenor range, it sucks but its true x_X

  • i dont really like the killers, but i do like the song from number 23 and this song is outright amazing!

  • WTF are you HAL 3000?

  • Yeah, I love this song and want to make a video but the only thing I can't hit are like the phrases "and then they took my blood type." "Type" is just out of my reach. :/ And switching octave sounds terrible.

  • I think Brandon Flowers sounds better, obviously, but that was amazing! I'm having difficulties singing the lower notes because I have a pretty high voice. Great job! (:

p.s. I love The Killers so very much!

  • its alittle bright

  • at Took my bloodtype

and cut me open u sound like a robot ^_^

  • Hey, your voice is deep like mine. Let's start a club.

  • very low man
