@ehart624: lol! I used to do that (I am an interpreter), but sounding it out phonetically often helps with receptive fluency:) If you must say each letter at least don't say it out loud! :)

@ericas46 :) I'm hearing, and I've been signing for about 10 years. And I often have to say each letter as somebody is spelling a word. :) My receptive fingerspelling skills are lousy, I admit. :)

@ehart624 Yes! I noticed that, too! Too bad for those who do not understand the ASL! LOL! But I am bothered when they camera-pan to the other person in a singed conversation and you only see the back of the person signing!. Then you must relie in the captions...

Off the point - I saw on FB that hearing fans of the show were complaining last week that some of the English subtitles for Melody/Emmett's signing were covered. ABCFamily was showing ads for other shows at the bottom of the TV screen and covered up the subtitles. Heehee. ABC Family said they would fix the problem. :)

This wasn't really a heavy-Emmett episode, so there wasn't much Deaf cultural behavior, I agree. I'm looking forward to next week when they introduce Emmett's father. :)

Hi DM, I always watch you through DNV mostly. How about Daphe with Emmett in the kitchen to chat with Emmett's mother? Peace-WEC

I noticed that when Emmett signed "hypocrite" Bay didn't know it and so he fingerspells it and she says each letter! So true of "baby" signers! Next week should be good as they will introduce more Deaf characters!
Erica... good one. Related to learning ASL when Deaf people fingerspell The hearies would mouth or say out loud each letter! Thank you. Yes next week will be good!
