Chapter One
-Alaina’s P.O.V.-
We were on our way out of our favorite store at the mall when we ran into a group of three boys because we weren’t paying attention. We got up and off of the three boys, quickly apologizing and offering any help that we could.
Alaina: Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!
Nicole: So, so sorry. We weren’t paying attention to where we were going.
Katherine: I’m so klutzy and so sorry.
The boy who spoke first seemed to be the oldest and probably mine and Nicole’s age.
Boy 1: Hey, I’m Kevin.
Boy 2: I’m Joe.
Boy 3: And I’m Nick.
Alaina: Oh, hey. I’m Alaina. This is Nicole and her cousin Katherine.
Nicole and Katherine: -quietly- Hey.
Kevin: So what are you girls up to?
Alaina: Oh, we’re just kind of hanging out.. not really doing anything.
Joe: -looking at Nicole- So do you girls want to hang out with us?
Nicole: Sure.
-After everyone spent time together, everyone broke off into pairs. Kevin and Alaina, Joe and Nicole, Nick and Katherine.-
-Kevin and Alaina-
Kevin: So what kind of stuff are you into?
Alaina: Oh man…. I love to sing. I love to cook. I like to hang out with my friends and go shopping. I read all the time. I love music. I play the guitar and write my own stuff. Umm… oh shoot. I’m talking too much. What kind of stuff are you into?
Kevin: Oh, you know. Stuff. -Alaina shot him a weird look- Just kidding. I love music, too. My brothers and I recently formed a band and we’re hoping it goes far. We’re going to record some demos soon.
Alaina: Really? I’d like to hear you guys sometime.
Kevin: Awesome.
Alaina: -looks at the time- Oh crap! The mall closes in about 15 minutes.
-pauses- Can I see your phone for a minute?
Kevin: Oh, um, sure.
-Alaina inserts her number and gives it back to Kevin-
Alaina: There. Now you have my number. Call me sometime.
-Alaina walked away from Kevin leaving him in awe and completely amazed.-
Kevin: -to himself as he’s walking to find his brothers- She’s going to be my girlfriend someday
-Joe and Nicole.-
Joe: This ice cream is delicious. What do they call it?
-Nicole gives Joe a look like “you’ve got to be kidding me”-
Nicole: Um, it’s called cotton candy and it isn’t ice cream.
Joe: Oh, I know. I just wanted to see what you’d say.
Nicole: Ah, okay then.
Joe: What do you want to do when you grow up?
Nicole: Umm… I don’t really know. I want to be someone that can inspire and encourage people.
Joe: Wow. What makes you want to do that, not that it’s bad or anything.
Nicole: -seems sad- Oh, um, I don’t know. I just it’s just what I feel like I need to do.
Joe: -notices she’s sad so he tries to cheer her up- I want to be a rapper.
Nicole: -laughs- Oh, really? Are you any good?
Joe: Nah. At least I don’t think so.
Nicole: I can tell you if you’re good or not. C’mon, rap for me.
Joe: No, not right now.
Nicole: -makes a pouty face- Why not?
Joe: Because it gives us a reason to hang out again.
-Nicole’s phone starts ringing-
Nicole: I have to go… -grabs a sharpie out of her pocket and writes her number on Joe’s hand- Call me, okay?
-Nicole walks away and is almost out the door when her phone starts ringing again. It’s a number she doesn’t recognize-
Nicole: Hello?
Joe: Hey, it’s me, Joe.
Nicole: -turns around to face him- Joe?
Joe: I just wanted to tell you good night.
Nicole: ‘Night Joe. -hangs up the phone and walks to Alaina’s car smiling-
-Nick and Katherine-
Katherine: -stopping in front of Build-A-Bear- This is my favorite place on earth.
Nick: Build-A-Bear? Do you want to go make a bear or some type of animal?
Katherine: Not if you don’t want to or whatever. Besides, I don’t have my money with me… it’s in Alaina’s car.
Nick: C’mon, and don’t worry about it.
-Nick and Katherine spend the rest of the afternoon in Build-A-Bear and really bonded over making the bear together-
Katherine: -coming out of Build-A-Bear- That was so much fun!
Nick: I agree. We’ll have to do it again.
Katherine: Definitely.
Nick: -as they’re walking- So do you have any special talents?
Katherine: I wouldn’t call it a special talent, but I write.
Nick: Oh really? What do you write?
Katherine: Oh, um, stuff. –quickly redirecting the attention to him- What about you?
-Before he was able to answer, she gets a call from Alaina saying to meet her at the car, that they’re leaving.-
Katherine: Hey, I gotta go. It was nice to get to know you.
Nick: You too.
-Katherine runs off to her ride and Nick walks off to meet up with his brothers.-
