Drum Lesson 10: 24 Note Gospel Triplet Lick

Here's a fill i attempted to nick from Aaron Spears. I came out sounding a little different which I guess is a good thing. The sticking is....

So ive had this vid up for a while and im getting quite a few questions on why when people play it, it doesn't "flow" very well....Here's what I normally answer that question with...

"I guess playing really slowly for a long time is an obvious place to start but once you are getting it upto speed the accents are really important. In that video i'm accenting ON the beat everytime...E.g. 1 2 3 4 and trying to ghost most other notes I play with my hands.

Another good excercise is to work on your triplets between hands and feet as an excercise. So I might play RLRLKK to a click quite slowly. Then maybe KKRLRL and RLKKRL

This will get you comfortable with the timing and feel of splitting the hands and feet in a linear fashion. The reason linear playing can be quite hard is because there's no limb thats "keeping time" so we have to have a strong inner clock

hey sam.. ar 2:45 you start to explain where to put them. i count only 10 notes when you explain it .. what are the last two hits (23 and 24)?.. i just get a bit confused with your hits on the end.. thanks!

The last two Notes are a Right on the Floor Tom then a Left on the Snare. Hope that helps

It look like swung 8th Notes. Mainly RK RK with the occasional RLK

Sticking isn't very hard, but it's hard to build up the speed like you did.
