This is a closeup of the sensor an Olympus PEN E-P3 when image stabilization is activated.
The image sensor is the reflective square and if you watch the edge, you can see it begin to move to compensate for the camera shaking. You can hear a buzzing noise when it is active, between the two shutter snaps.
This is being played back in real time. The rig I used to attach the two cameras to each other is not perfectly steady so there is a bit of a shake in the whole image, but once the IBIS kicks in you can clearly see the sensor shifting to try and compensate.
