Don talks about the options for saving possibly hundreds of dollars on your heating/cooling bill by insulating your attic.

  • @d1incharge I agree. Foam is only good for the space in the basement where the concrete meets the floor on the first level. Helps keep any bugs from getting in the basement :)

  • good point about the air handler being in the attic...however. I have a boiler in the basement, and the central unit in the attic...i think even though it is very hot up there...the vents have a short distance and are in the tops of the ceiling. the cold air falls down into the rooms and the compressor is outside cooling itself, i dunno if he would suggest the same thing for a situation like this.

  • @d1incharge foam maybe was around for 40 yrs

but wasnt on market or till 90s, like canned expanding foam, sounds like your a fiberglass fanatic dinosaur, , good go ahead and keep using that shit, well you sound like in your 60s n 70s, figures

  • (The Fansulator) Insulate your Whole House Fan

  • Great video...I converted my home to a net-zero solar powered home that uses no oil or gas...I made a video about it called, "Preparing for Peak Oil"....

  • the envelope is the ceiling, why dont you go around your house and show me all of the these "tiny cracks" you are talking about and explain why it is too much work to just seal them? Study thermodynamics? Is that where they lied and told you foam was a radiant barrier? Its called a 5k dollar thermal camera......ever heard of them? I should show you some thermal pictures of how poorly open cell really works.......it is hilarious!

  • foam is a waste of money.

  • fakiir wrote"standard radiant barrier sheathing does the same job, possibly cheaper, but you dont get the benefit of sealing all the tiny cracks." Radiant barrier adds about 300 dollars to a job, foam about 10,000, just so you know you fckn moron. And since most of the country isnt dumb enough to put their hvac in the attic, insulating it would be a complete waste in most of the homes in the country. A 10,000 dollar waste.

  • Ive built more homes than youve seen in your life. I was there at the trade shows when foam tried becoming popular in the seventies. I have hired more than one professional energy auditor to run savings numbers on foam. They say the same thing, most climates in the US do NOT justify using foam, the cost will take too long to repay itself. And only retarded deuschebags on youtube think its the re-invented wheel of insulation.

  • spoken like a person who has never built a home or any sort of structure. combustion air vents are tiny, compared to all the radiant heat you can block from the roof by putting foam between the rafters (standard radiant barrier sheathing does the same job, possibly cheaper, but you dont get the benefit of sealing all the tiny cracks.) go study a little physics, especially the part about heat flow and thermodynamics, then try again.
