My brother-in-law is a physical therapist assistant. He actually learned massage techniques in school. I think its ok if they have some training if they want to incorporate it into their practice. Also my grandma who is now 85 was a nurse and she said that they were taught Swedish massage to relax their patients.
I don't think we have to worry about anyone taking over massage because most other professions are not going to take up their time giving 1 hour massages...they wouldn't have time.
I do not think that doctors or any other profession should perform a Massage. I don't think its right because I'm paying all this money on my tuition to go to Massage school.. I don't want a Doctor who gets paid 60 or more dollars a hour doing it when he hasn't been trained. If anyone could do it, then we wouldn't be our own. Massage would just be for whoever and it would destroy our profession.
