A good number of taxes aren't graduated, like the social security tax, which stops after taxing a certain amount.
Taxes should be graduated because poor and middle class folks spend a DISproportionately larger share of their income on basic necessities (housing, food, healthcare, transportation) than the rich.

If one understands the tax system in this country then they know that the rich pay more both as a percentage of their income and in actual dollars. The wealthy would still pay more taxes under a flat tax because they would be paying more in actual dollars. Why is there a need to soak one class twice?

You want a dollar amount? Be fair, then. I'm sure if you asked each candidate how much they wanted to "raise taxes," they'd be able to tell you, if only you'd tell them how much a particular taxpayer was earning. Mr. Dawson, you apparently don't understand how our tax structure works here in America. It's graduated, which means that the people who make more pay more. Got that?
