A few weeks ago we had a one-week workshop with the wonderful Barry Purves. It was very very educational. We had to go back to the very beginning and work underneath old-school cameras.
By the end of the week we had to make our own string puppet and animate it. The assignment was to have the character sit in one corner and let something drop in on the other. The character had to go to the object but how depended on a slip of paper you got. Mine said: "someone on ice". The doll was inspired by Enkana's drawings and was made of patterned fabric and paper (which you can't see due to the crap quality of the camera).
It was fun. Should update with sound in the summer :]

Hello, the puppet is handmade from fabric, cardboard and string (for the joints). It was shot frame by frame under a rostrum camera with a program called Animator HD. You could also use programs like stop motion pro or something to shoot frame by frame puppet animations :]
Thanks for your comments!
