Thanks. A good reminder of our job, and how the quality of the soil (the heart) determines the reception of the Word.

Good afternoon John, I believe that Greg is saying that it is up to God to choose who is which type of soil... if I am wrong, then my appologies to Greg. My point is that God is in the message, but the results are in the human and the choice they make, either to accept or reject the message. I put the responsibility in the listener, Greg places it with God. He will choose who will respond. Maybe I am wrong.... Greg?

Your thought doesn't seem differing. Actually, it seems complementary, if anything. Greg's point was that you should sow recklessly, not caring about the state of the soil. And although the parable might talk about different kinds of soil, it is not our place to judge the type of soil we are sowing into. So while your point is valid, it doesn't seem to differ from Greg's thought. :)

Great thoughts... my only differing thought is that in the parable it is the soil that makes the difference. The seed of course is the Word and you and I as Christians are the sowers, the only variable is the type of soil and of course the soil is people. Some are hard hearted, some are shallow, some are overtaken by the cares of the world and some produce much fruit. Same Word, same sower... different results depending on the person. Can soil change... absolutely. Can people change... you bet!
