I truly believed Herb when, after tripping him during a friendly pick-up game at the Mahtomedi rink in 1972 he threw me to the ice, pressed his stick upon my neck and said, " Do that again, you little shit, and I'll stuff this stick right down your throat!". I was a 100 lb sophomore and he was not yet Herb the Hockey Icon. Those were the days!

Herb Brooks whole life story is just surreal. He was the last guy cut from the 1960 U.S. Hockey Team....so he didn't get the gold medal they won that year. He comes back 20 years later and coaches a team to beat the arguably best hockey team ever...the Soviet Union...and he got his gold medal in the most dramatic and exciting way possible. Just unreal.
