Police breaks up peaceful parade honoring deceased musician

The New Orleans police (NOPD) breaks up a peaceful secondline parade honoring the deceased musician Kerwin James. October 1st, 2007: a traditional second line is held in the Tremé neigborhood. Just at the end of the parade, the NOPD arrives. Within half an hour there are 15 police cars and 30 officers. 2 musicians are being arrested, but later they will be released. The celebration was just peaceful, traditional and cultural. Apparently NOPD had nothing better to do that evening, despite all the high crime rates in the city.

This was NOT a Mardi Gras parade, but a funeral parade. This is an old New Orleans tradition that never required a permit.

right, and when you violate the city noise and assembly ordinances then the police have the right to step in and tell the crowd to dispurse. when ignorant people don't listen then they go to jail. wah wah wah. What they don't say is this was an all day deal and were told to disband and clear the street at 10 pm. These nigs got stupid when the 2 cop cars asked the crowd to dispurse. Ignorance ensued, thus backups arrived because of the size of the crowd. What else is not being said, is that out of the last 4 second line funeral parades, there were 6 homocides related to the people there. 3 dead, were innocent people hit by stray bullets. The NOPD needs to stay on top of these events

Man, I didn't know there was video of this. What an outrage - makes me sick to see it. They don't even send this many cops when somebody gets shot. I keep wanting to support the police, but they keep doing sh*t like this. The cops on the street are trying to do their job, but their leadership is just horrible, and the priorities are so screwed up. New Orleans just keeps on suffering.
