A 1/2 ton donut is dropped on a pogo stick made from a couple of dodge truck springs. Sounds even better in slo-mo.

  • Why not drop the voltage slow to gently lower the magnet?

  • That would be the normal way to do it. We needed to have a "backup" system in case we had a failure of the control system or power supply.

  • what the heck is it?

  • A half ton magnet that we magnetically levitate. This was a test of the catcher mechanism in case anything goes wrong with the levitation. Wouldn't due to drop a million dollar magnet on the floor. For more info, google "Levitated Dipole Experiment".

  • ATTENTION ALL AMERICANS: Is it possible for any company in USA to produce a 1000kg spheric Neodymium permanent magnet? Cost of material seem to be 44 000 US dollars. Will production cost be higher?
