A trip underground into Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico in the 1920s. Footage from this subject is available for licensing from www.globalimageworks.com
The first time I toured Carlsbad Caverns, with Grandparents in the '50's, on a Ranger-led tour, I remember him turning off the lights at one point so we could really "see" the DARK. The last time I toured, with my own kids in the '90's, on a radio-receiver tour, they no longer turn off the lights. My kids didn't get a chance to see "The Darkest Place On Earth." The price of progress.... Thanks for posting this video!
You can not even begin to get a fraction of the majesty of this cave from this film. I dislike seeing the smoke from the flares and kids crawling on the formations. The "Big Room" is so large it just boggles the mind how long it must have taken to form. The fact that young earth theorists would have us believe this was created over a few thousand years is just nuts.
This video is incredible! Even in film noir, the magic of Carlsbad Caverns' wonders is magical beyond words! The magnesium flares...if that is, indeed, what they are... give a haunting, ghostly illumination to a world of perpetual darkness! Stunningly Beautiful! Thanks for posting this one!
