This is Rock and Roll at it's finest. The kids need to hear this! The original Nazz version is badass too, Todd rules!

In 1968 I took my GF to see TR sing "Hello It's Me" and "Open My Eyes" here in Dallas. Spirit opened for him... What a perfomance. I haven't forgotten it to this day.

And he's a Philly boy too! Upper Darby to be exact (Tina Fey also). I went to Manoa Elementary School. I wonder if TR went there........

@ROCKSTARCRANE This may be the single most astute observation on Runt's music I have ever read. I have been a Todd fan since NAZZ (my best friend actually had the vinyl. He ended up a major (or higher) in the Army. I do not know how to reconcile those two facts. In any case, Todd is still God, and all is right with the world when he plays. For a little while, at least.

Awesome man--thanks for the info. I'll have to get it. I love the Utopia live DVD. The one right after "Network" where they dressed Beatle-esque.

this is from a DVD called Live in San Francisco - probably available to buy - the whole thing is on this level - awesome shit

fanatstic fucking sound.....that floor tom goes "WHOOOOMPH".......nifty crane shots......one of the great, rockin bass lines. Like torridscene said - how big can a three-piece sound. A great, uplifting number that sticks with ya, and revs ya along.

Fucking amazing that he pulls this off live like this. The record has a zillion overdubs and harmonies, but Todd's brilliance makes this even more exciting.
Wow! Yeah! Clean and tight, That's how it's done!

there's no question this was heavily influenced by the who, but the vocal changes & harmonies, especially at the bridge/turnaround, townsend couldn't touch with a ten foot pole; that's all todd... well, and a bit o' the beachboys ;-)
