Russia - South Ossetia - Georgia - War in Caucasus

Georgia started shelling and mortaring capital of South Ossetia Tskhinvali, 2000 civilians died so far !Question is did Russia had rights to intervene in that conflict ? Of course she had, because 95% of Ossetians hold Russian passports, that means they are Russian citizens. Russian army successfully liberated Tskhinvali and pushed Georgian forces back to Georgia !
