Interesting that the commentators were calling KJ the best point guard in the league, though Magic was still the best, imo. Also interesting that Cotton talked about Barkley getting his and shutting down the cast, and as it turned out, Barkley scores 45 and Phoenix wins by 19! Despite Charles being the 3rd best player at the time behind only Michael and Magic, imo, this just illustrates the difference between Barkley's cast and the best teams at the time. This Suns team was really entertaining.

@ARMquaman Rambis gave the Suns valuable defense, rebounding, and above all experience, helping Phoenix whip the league-best, 63-win Lakers (Rambis' old team) four games to one in the 1990 Western Conference Semifinals, arguably the greatest playoff series victory in franchise history. Fitzsimmons drafted Gilliam in 1987, but by late 1989, he felt that "The Hammer" and Chambers couldn't play together because they were both shoot-first offensive players who offered little defense.
-
@marzilyas It's funny you say that because like the very next season Gilliam is a 76er and Barkley is on the Suns(92/93).

@ARMquaman I meant in this particular game, but yeah, definitely. I was born in 1987, so I honestly don't even know much about the Suns until Barkley brought them to the finals in 93.

@marzilyas That's cool man, at that time we didn't have the massive media insider coverage to know the real deal but it was crazy how that Suns franchise found a way to have every draft and trade being a white guy. I don't think Gilliam and Cotton Fitzsimmons ever saw eye to eye because "The Hammer" was such a prototype back to the basket power forward he didn't fit into the Suns sissy style but they learned real quick you have to have that and traded for "X-Man".

@DrmrGuy1979 Oh yeah, they occasionally gambled white....dahh I mean right. But for every Chambers or Hornacek there was a Kurt Rambis or Ed Nealy or Nick Vanos or Grant Gondrizek that made no sense.
I mean to trade Armon Gilliam in his prime for Kurt friggin Rambis and THEN go get Xavier McDaniel and Wayman Tisdale who is the EXACT same player as Gilliam from top to bottom made no sense UNLESS you had this white guy fetish. Why trade Gilliam in the first place?

@ARMquaman BEAUTIFUL hook by the x-man @ 1:21:40

Armon Gilliam(Second overall pick in 87 draft) on PHOENIX full games are tough to find too (if you would). I think Pat Lavheuir actually has one or two on his great NBA channel.
-
They never gave Armon Gilliam the chance to really shine when they had him, So he goes to Charlotte Hornets and basically goes for 20 and 10 and one of the best low posters in the league in his era.
If you have any Armon Gilliam on Charlotte games that's another obscure stint people forget about.
Thanks again

Ha, they traded for X after 15 games because the finesse Suns desp needed an inside enforcer that could score as well. It made me hate their Armon GIlliam for Kurt Rambis debacle of a trade even more. I thought the late 80s/early90s Suns wanted to stockpile as many white players as possiblewith Chambers, Hornacek, Rambis, Ainge, Majerle, Nealy etc.
This is a GREAT upload because it is VERY difficult to find full game footage of Xavier McDaniel on the Phoenix Suns (reuniting with Tom Chambers). Obscure stop for the "X-Man" people forget, and really only played 66 games as a Sun in between Seattle and New York.

@ARMquaman I totally forgot about his stay in Phoenix myself.
