The animation shows "model based testing*": Flow of stacks inside a warehouse;
Stacks of crates are routed around in the system, being stored in / withdrawn from a High Bay Warehouse (black box), height measured, weighed, scanned and stacked/destacked in order to fullfill the actual orders.
The PLC controls the model using a direct Ethernet|TCP/IP connection (not OPC). This way the PLC logic is being validated "back home" to reduce commissioning costs on-site.
The PLC can also communicate with the Material Flow Controller/Warehouse Management System to get the real order info. This way the MFC/WMS logic is being validated, too - and again: valuable time and money is saved and prestige is sustained.

*Model based testing is also known as system emulation, virtual automation or virtual commissioning
