Rosemary Timotea Yuro was born August 4, 1940 into an Italian-American family in Chicago, the middle name stems from an Irish godfather, who wanted to call his godson Timothy. When the baby was a girl, he suggested she be named Timotea an Italian name for girls. Her parents compromised by using Timotea as a middle name. Her parents call her Rosemay and her family called her "Ro" - short for Rosemary. - But Timi makes and attractive name for a singer, so she was using it professionally, although she admitted that because of that billing many people thought of her as Japanese although she told "she's a 100 percent Chicago-Italian girl"-- . Timi Yuro's most famous song "Hurt", that finally got her started as a professional, and was always number one of her personal hitparade. Timi's top ten recording of Hurt remains as one of the best vocal performances of 60's pop music. Timi Yuro is considered to be one of the first "blue-eyed" soul stylist of the rock-era, and the first white female artist to sing at New York's legendary's Apollo Theater in Harlem. Yuro's most famous fan was probably Elvis Presley, who commanded his own table at the Las Vegas casino where Timi Yuro headlined in the late 60's. She sang the title tracks on the 1962 film "Satan Never Sleeps", and the 1968 film "Interlude". Timi Yuro returned to her Italian origins with the 1965 release "E poi verra 'l' autunno" - "Ti Credo", recorded for entry in Italy's San Remo festival. Timi reached the half final and won an award for her performance. Timi Yuro appeared a second time at the festival in 1968 and sang "Le solite cose". Timi appeared in a black and white Philippines film "Buhay Marino" in 1967, as a guest star with Philippine comedians Dolphy and Panchito. Yuro appeared in the Philippine movie 'Incognito' 1967 with Bernard Bonnin, Perla Bautista, Ronald Remy. At that time, the singer was very popular in the Philippines. Timi Yuro was one of the most powerful, passionate, committed and emotional singers ever put on record. her idol Dinah Washington said of her,'Timi's voice doesn't come from her throat, but from her heart. She doesn't just sing the song, she lives it'. Timi described herself as,'A stylist rather than a popsinger, a stylist is a real singer who has their own particular bag.It may take longer to get your particular style over, but in the end it's wort it'.

  • @beefoneeto My God, what a voice. So commanding. So beautiful. Look at the kids just staring at her. Probably can't believe what they're hearing. Wish I could have seen her sing live back in the 60s. And no, she is not lip-syncing. The orchestration is from a prerecorded source, such as a record or tape, but that is her actual voice. Many singers back then did the same thing on similar music shows. They either sang over they're pre-recorded voice or replaced it. Randazzo was a genius.

  • Lip synced but who really cares-a great classic video.

  • Pure gold. Fantastic song...great arrangement...vocal brilliance....

  • Get Out Of My Life is a totally awesome classic that I had worn out by the late sixties & took years to find replacement...makes on wish Timi & Teddy would have made a complete lp & would have been a killer classic...induct Timi Yuro in Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame...one of the all time greatest!!!

  • Get Out Of My Life is a 45rpm worn out by the end of the sixties & couldn't find a replacement for years...awesome soulful classic makes on wish Timi & Teddy would have made a complete lp...would have been a killer masterpiece...induct Timi Yuro in Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!!!

  • ....and rhythm patterns: like the triplet-quarters in the "breakdown".

  • One of the greatest "undiscovered" pop gems ever, that I know of.

  • This is such a powerful song and reminds me of being a 10 year old girl with an old Dansette and a hairbrush in the bedroom, absolutely phenomenal voice too! Not me, Timi! haha!

  • Yes, the resemblance to Going out of my Head is very stong. Let's just say there's was a certain harmonic sequence Teddy Randazzo was very fond of!
