At 28 pages, the American Community Survey contains some of the most detailed and intrusive questions ever put forth in a census questionnaire. In this weeks vodcast, John W. Whitehead warns of the dangers of telling all to Big Brother.

  • What is the penalty if you lie about the information you do not wish to provide such as what time you go to work and how long it takes to get there? Are they going to go out and verify each and every filled out form? I do not think so. The Government has no right to require this type of information and it is obvious why they want it. Watch out America we have been sleeping and are about to wake up and realize we are no longer a free society. Our Government is totally corrupt and out of control.

  • screw the government.. big brother is here and the legal system supports the big brother movement.. it is time people who don't have a job not fill these forms out and chance going to jail.. plug the courts up with defiance.

  • @Sensibility5 it does ask about your mental health and if you have trouble bathing...which i found odd.

  • actually sir, the US Census Bureau has NEVER fined or prosecuted anyone for refusing to answer this survey. I told the census worker to go fuck himself when he showed up at my door trying to "help" me fill out the survey and I haven't heard a peep from them since and this was in 2008.

  • @mdwharton2

Just sorry I wasn,t smart enough to think before I threw the form in the trash,to mail it back not filled out with some nice cat shit on the pages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mdwharton2

They pounded on my door 6 times, each time I slammed the door in there faces!!!!! never came back after the 6 time. and I NEVER ANSWERED ONE QUESTION AND NEVER WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kentwesterly They left a note at my parents house that they would stick a US marshall on them if they did not fill it out. Survey or interrogation, you decide.

  • @Tobytuber People also won't have their residences invaded by government personnel to put devices on their computers, and phones, the IRS isn't going to come and get you. This man is just trying to scare people with more of the big brother crap.

  • @devilslice , depends how badly the government needs money!

  • @Chuichupachichi : the form doesn't ask about sick leave, it doesn't ask how many stair you have and it certainly doesn't ask about your friends and relatives. This man is an idiot. People need to get some real facts, and try to understand why this information is sought. By the way, there are no fines for making mistakes...and most of what this man says is pure hogwash, and scare tactics.

  • I agree with everything said here, except that the government will prosecute those who don't answer. I have found no citations of anyone being either fined or improisoned. If anyone has any information to the contrary, please post. As a doctor, I do agree with some of the HIPPA concerns raised by other posts. Remember though, not all institutions must comply with HIPPA and I'm sure the governent would consider itself exempt.

  • I got a survey in my mailbox today and I am not going to fill it out or answer it! It is asking private information on my health that is none of their damn buisness and violates HIPPA!
