avengemm9dog Your ignorance and those who share it are what will take your Freedom of Speech away. Having the internet controlled by a few companies will NOT provide freedoms it will take them away.
Would you dare to call Vint Cerf and Tim Berners-Lee (the men who engineered the internet and the world wide web) "ignorant"? Because they completely disagree with you and think net neutrality is vital to maintaining the internet as a strong source of innovation, education and economic growth. Sorry, but I'll go with the creators of the internet over the opinion of telecom lobbyists and John McCain.
Prehaps ignorant isn't the right word but i do think their view is wrong. Let me state this clearly internet is NOT a right. I do not want to see any form of government regulation or "protection" of the internet. It's very simple if you do not want an internet provider that does not give you the best internet acces to certain sites than don't use the services of that internet provider. There is no FCC regulation needed to protect net neutrality.
Your letting your distorted opinions provided by Fox, Limbaugh.. destroy your logic. ATT, Comcast.. are paying $MILLIONS$ to control the internet. And this is your Idea of, It will work itself out?
Fact: John McCain the sponsor of the " I'm against equal rights for all except those with lots of money" bill, got record setting payola from the companies that are against net neutrality. Why?
You're either brainwashed, work for one of the companies that want to control the internet or both.
Once again, there isn't nearly enough choice in the market for consumers to have enough leverage to make those decisions - and this isn't just about individual consumers - this is about business. ISPs could wipe out potential competitors and innovative start ups by refusing them access. Power companies can't refuse you electricity based on what you intend to use it for - thus it should be for the internet. Internet access will be just as important as having electricity or running water.
South American dictators shut down the TV station. The White House just made the obvious observation that Fox is biased, and they don't need to provide them with any special, exclusive media access if they don't feel like it, so what? Bush never gave an interview to the New York Times in 8 years.
What difference does it make how the White House chooses to label fox news? News Corp is a huge corporation that can fend for themselves - no one is trying to silence them. But considering they devote 24/7 coverage to trying to destroy Obama, and heavily promote political activism against the left - I think the accusation that they aren't a traditional news outlet is appropriate and well earned.
If 2 or 3 companies own everyone's access to the network, that isn't possible. In most markets in this country consumers only have 1 or 2 choices for broadband as it - and ISPs are continuing to consolidate. They will not innovate to benefit consumers - as they see old business models slipping away, they will alter their business models to get more money out of "premium" data services. if we don't stop them the 90s and 00s will be seen as the a brief golden age of internet innovation
