Any luck fixing the problem?? The samething just happened to my MacBook n I'm searching all over the web to see if it's something one can fix, I thought MacBooks were supposed to be good machines.
NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors. After an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within three years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty. Hope this helped.

Actually as a tech, i would say it is most likely a faulty LCD screen, this part can be found for under $100 on ebay and be install fairly easily with some knowledge. to be sure connect a second display if there is good picture it is you LCD screen, if you get bad picture then it is your video card, which means new logic board.
