What a twist of fate! Seeing as she is now at such odds with Shell!

I thought I was winding you up. :) .. re car: I was just explaining why I don't have a car; trying to say that I would have one if they looked nice and were electric (so I'm happy to use modern tech and don't see it as hypocritical to do so and still criticise). You probably right that she didn't need to fly I don't know much about her. I don't believe the "we need it because they drill" argument as I said before so then we should maybe hold back. This is boring now isn't it?

So you think cars are ugly. Who gives a shit. Let me put it this way. A few days after Lucy Lawless 'performed' her protest, she jumped on a plane to fly to the south island. Did she need to fly? She's a hypocrite. Like many others.

Of course I don't believe in waste. I'm a typical Kiwi. I've been winding you up mate. Quite successfully I might add.

"We need it because they drill" suggests it doesn't matter if we run out of the stuff then does it?

    So why hold back?

I think the main thing (that has failed to get through to you in your X years on earth, and this conversation doesn't seem to be helping!), is that someone can use something in moderation and be OK about that whilst still criticising profligate use of that same thing. In this way I'm happy to use some oil but I do not see it as a massive contradiction to criticise overuse. Can you see that this is a reasonable stance? (I don't wear a bike helmet by the way.)

Also "they drill because we need it" is way oversimplified. How about "we need it because they drill"? If course that's not true either. How about "we're used to it and they want to keep us used to it so they can keep making money since they are in a strong position in this situation". This is maybe closer to the truth...

I have no ideology. I don't own a car because I don't need one and think they're ugly. Your bet was about cars I won it cos I'm not in option one that you bet on. (The fact that I'm not in option 2 either highlights the insufficiency of your black and white views on things.) I'm not gonna start telling you about unfortunate consequences of oil based economy you can look that up yourself if you want. Your 1st comment implied people should act regardless of the consequences. Nonsense.

OK, after further consideration, I realise you made a brilliant point. There is no escaping the 'oil based economy'.

    Well illustrated.
