  • do you have any advise for those horses exposed to constant moisture in the pacific northwest

  • My horses hooves always fell apart in the wet season, when I regularly rasped the upper hoofwall down. Sicne I quit that, they stay really healthy. But also you can use hoof armor on the soles in the wet season and it really helps, and just keep treating for thrush even when they don't have it.

  • I bought a bunch of "gentian violet" at CVS or rite-ade a while back. It was lots cheaper than thrush buster, like a third less. It's pretty much the same as thrush buster---but it's a tincture, so it's real strong. I poured it in a small spray bottle(an empty salad spritzer bottle--has a small spray pattern & easy to manage) You just spray it on. There's no "run off" purple stained mess all over hill & dale, haha!

  • Now that's a GREAT idea, and I have been wondering about that because I know "packaging" is everything. Like I use armoral for show sheen, it really takes the tangles out of manes and tails. And having used that violet on cattle, and noticing the color of thrush buster I was wondering about that. Thanks...also I will reply to your letter later, thanks again.

  • Once the camera focus was corrected, I found this incredibly helpful. I am struggling to build sole callous on my paint up here in soggy New England.Ill give it a try!

  • Hi, hope it helps, it really helped my colt, and we have very wet weather here. The main thing is getting all the flares out so you have a tight white line, you can't get any sole callous unless you have that. Good luck.

  • Gosh, high time to get a patent on it, and start manufacturing it! Is he still around? Does he make them to order?

  • @AnywhereButHere09 Some guy in Montana made it years ago. He was going to manufacture them, but never did. But I really like the design with one piece that does all instead of two pieces.

  • Where did you get your nice hoof cradle?

  • @melissanamaste Well ya gotta use something. I actually make the Miracle Freeze Mudd, of which I have the franchise and main dealership for Kansas, and Oaklahoma. Mostly it's been sold to race horse trainers, and now a lot of barrel racers and cutting people are using it. It's primarily a poltice for tendons, swelling in the legs etc. But the other stuff I don't use anymore, rather I use Durasole, and that stuff is fantasitic, for strengthening the sole.

  • I forgot to mention that calling someone or their actions "stupid" is rude. Just ask Obama.

  • I eat yogurt but so far have refrained from putting it in an other orafice.

Preventative works for me & my horse's environment.

    Carcigens do not concern me.

  • Thats just plain stupid; would you shove yoghurt up your fanny every single day of your life 'just in case ' ? How about harmful carcinogenic chemicals ?

  • Hmmm. I have to question how definitive you are about thrush. Bacteria is tough to control w/ regular hoof care.I've seen thrush get in a foot that was well cared for.I think I'd prefer to treat for thrush even when it doesn't appear obviously in a foot.I'm in California.... short pasture & dry shavings in the stalls.I see thrush trying to sneak into my horse's feet fairly regularly & their feet are regularly tended to.Safe than sorry is my mantra.

  • buy many dump truck loads of gravel

  • Isn't more effective and cheap one horseshoe?
