In 1949 Eric Gulston commanded a small reconnaissance
patrol of five Coldstream Guardsmen, who encountered
an enemy patrol far larger than itself. Outnumbered and
out gunned, Eric led his team in a game of cat and mouse
with the enemy through the jungle.
This short patrol that was to last for several hours ended up lasting seven days. Cut off, without food and water and
coming down with Malaria, Eric led his team through the
jungle alive and safe. Several enemy CT were killed.
He was awarded the Military Medal in 1950 for
BRAVERY IN THE FIELD.
