The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has announced the launch of the "NYRA Time Machine" video series, which highlights some of the greatest races in New York Racing history.

The human connections of the horses who competed in these historical races will provide their insights and perspectives in each "NYRA Time Machine" video, and the first episode, which profiles Onion's upset victory over Secretariat in the 1973 Whitney Handicap, features an interview with Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens.

NYRA will unveil more "Time Machine" features in the upcoming weeks, and the second installment will cover Rachel Alexandra's unprecedented victory over older males in last year's Woodward.

  • @Pari28 PS. who the heck names a horse Onion?

I am going to go name one Chives! Or Tomato. Or Carrot. i could go on :)

  • I'm sorry but that music during the race was totally obnoxious...Anyone else think so?

I could barely here the call :(

  • @capriole57 What wasn't mentioned was that Sec was ill with a low-grade fever before the Whitney, and responded badly to his usual monster workout before a race. Ron said he shouldn't be entered, but Laurin thought he had an actual machine on his hands! Later, when in better shape, Sec killed Onion by 12 lengths at the MC and set the WR for 9f. At the Woodward he was thrown in at the 11th hr. (sub for RR) while training for the MOW on grass a week later. We all saw what he did in the latter.

  • The Chief's pony "Circus" wanted to get into the action towards the end of the interview - From 4:12 to 4:20 - best part of the video. Who races a horse, sets the track record and comes back days to beat a Triple Crown winner going away? H. Allen Jerkens- that's not luck, that's brilliant horsemanship.

  • @WhiteCamry Ouch! Sorry you didn't like the beds.....

  • I remember that summer like it was yesterday!

  • My Hero, el chief , the best horse trainer the history of America. Me complace mucho trabajar para el . El Gigante Matador..
