I know its a joke but I inherited a house that had been owned by my Great Grandfather and he was a REALLY bad hoarder, from sheets to napkins and thousands of hammers, thousands of chisels, thousands of EVERYTHING worthless. I am still cleaning up the hoard to this day and have been driven crazy by it. I would just say even if it's a joke clean up so others won't be mad at you later, I am just now able to have happy thoughts of them again and thats not a joke.

he was probably abused by his parents and/or bullied in school, shitty social life, maybe bitter divorce, and there you go sitting in his hole, leading closed up life, surrounded by junk. sad, very sad. there is no real help to these people besides bullet to the head or a long term institutional mental inpatient treatment with medication and psychotherapy in isolation from his usual environment. support groups and shrinks won't help.

Hoarder, Unorganized, Frugal or Busy? I see neighbors throw out perfectly good items when they are done with them...I've seen people move from 2300 square foot houses into 800 aquare foot homes...I know of people who don't have to go shopping for a quarter-inch sheet metal screw, because they still have a package from their last project...and sometimes you live with people that just won't pick up after themselves. Tacking the status of a "disease" to hoarding is ridiculous.
